Introducing: Jamii Technology Program

The Jamii Technology Program (JTP) is a new 8-12 week design program that connects international teams to do context driven design with & for members of the Arusha community. Teams consist of a Tanzanian community partner, Tanzanian youth, and international design or engineering students. Each team collaborates to design and make a solution to a problem identified by the community partner. Teams are supported by Twende staff and other mentors. The program seeks to develop the competence and confidence of all involved, specifically, in the design process, creative problem solving, local production, and cross-cultural collaboration.

When

If you are a Tanzanian youth, you will select one or both of the following sessions:
  1. Session I: Early June - mid/late July
  2. Session II: Mid July - mid/late September
If you are an international student, you will select one of the following sessions:
  1. Session I: Early June - late August
  2. Session II: Early July - late September

Cost

Tanzanian youth are asked to find their own housing, food, and transport options in Arusha, but Twende will subsidize program fees.

International students should budget about $3,500 to cover accommodation, food, local transport, visa, and program fees.  We are working on securing scholarship funding for this program to increase accessibility and may be able to reduce costs.
